110 workplaces are being inspected, Azemi: Fines against property owners are mild and should be increased.

Labor Ministry and Inspectorate Continue Construction Sector Inspections

The Ministry of Labor, in collaboration with the Central Labor Inspectorate, is maintaining its ongoing inspection program within the construction sector across Kosovo. Initial reports following the first 48-hour period detail a significant number of workplaces examined. A total of 110 construction sites were inspected, leading to work stoppages at 50 locations.

During these inspections, 33 official notices were issued. The inspections were geographically dispersed, with concentrated activity in several municipalities. Specifically, 12 workplaces were examined in Pristina, followed by 10 in Fushe Kosova, 13 in Ferizaj, 12 in Gjilan, 13 in Mitrovica, 12 in Lipjan, 11 in Podujevë, 11 in Drenas, and 16 in Gjakova.

Concerns regarding workplace safety remain a primary focus. According to Jusuf Azemi, Chairman of the Independent Trade Union of the Private Sector of Kosovo, a key factor contributing to workplace fatalities is a lack of adequate vigilance and negligence exhibited by construction company owners. Azemi emphasized the importance of proactive oversight at construction sites to ensure worker safety.

The Ministry and Inspectorate continue to prioritize the thorough inspection of construction workplaces to enforce safety regulations and prevent further incidents.
