App Launches Surge Following Initial AI Concerns
Recent data indicates a significant increase in app launches across major app stores following initial predictions of artificial intelligence disrupting the mobile application landscape. A new analysis by market intelligence provider Appfigures reveals a substantial rise in app launches worldwide during the first quarter of 2026. The report highlights a 60% increase in total app launches globally compared to the first quarter of 2025, encompassing both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Notably, the growth was even more pronounced within the Apple App Store, with launches rising by 80% year-over-year. As of April 2026, the cumulative number of app launches across both stores had increased by 104% compared to the prior year. Specifically, the Apple App Store experienced an 89% rise in app launches during the same period.
Greg “Joz” Joswiak, Apple’s Global Worldwide Senior Director of Marketing, commented on the trend, stating that the increased activity demonstrates continued innovation within the app store ecosystem. The data suggests a dynamic market where developers are actively pursuing new opportunities within the app store environment. These findings underscore the ongoing vitality of the app market and the continued success of the app store launches.
