The bird known as Papagalli Spoods in South Carolina has been officially recognized as the oldest parrot in the world. Guinness World Records has confirmed that Amanda Beth’s bird holds the title of the oldest living parrot. According to Beth, Spoods was three years old when she received him as a gift from her mother in 1997.
This makes the bird approximately 32 years and 86 days old. This longevity is notable, as captive parrots typically have an expected lifespan of 15 to 20 years. Beth shared that while the parrot’s vocalizations are not as frequent as they once were, Spoods still maintains a daily greeting routine.
The recognition underscores the remarkable lifespan achieved by this particular parrot. The confirmation from Guinness solidifies Spoods’ place in records concerning the age of living avian species.
