Patients with hemophilia without treatment, the Ministry of Health promises quick supply.

Hemophilia Patients Face Ongoing Treatment Shortages, Isolation

Hemophilia patients are experiencing significant challenges accessing adequate treatment and support, leading to difficulties in daily life and increased isolation. A persistent shortage of medications designed to control bleeding remains a critical concern for individuals with the condition. According to Cvetanka Načevska, spokesperson for the Hemophilia Patient Association, the situation has been consistently problematic.

“Throughout the entire year 2025, we have been with reduced monthly supplies for the performance of all life activities; the elderly, believe me, most are in bed,” she stated. Patients are reporting a lack of consistent access to essential medications, even for minor injuries, exacerbating their conditions. The lack of appropriate therapy is contributing to serious complications, including debilitating joint injuries and persistent pain.

Načevska highlighted that some patients are reverting to older, less effective treatments like cryoprecipitates, a practice no longer standard worldwide. “They have serious injuries in their joints, with unbearable pain,” Načevska explained. The association is urging authorities to prioritize the provision of modern therapies with longer-lasting effects to address this ongoing crisis and mitigate the impact on patients’ well-being.
