Çollaku: Kurti deliberately left the issue of the president unresolved, having thought about deals in the last hours.

Çollaku Claims Kurti Deliberately Left Presidential Issue Unresolved

Kosovo is nearing the end of its constitutional week as the final preparations are made for the presidential election, with the potential for early elections looming if a resolution cannot be reached. The ongoing deadlock centers around the selection of Kosovo’s head of state. Recent efforts by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, involved offering significant positions within the government, including the role of Speaker of Parliament, to the PDK and LDK – Kosovo’s two largest opposition parties.

Kurti maintained that the presidency would remain under the control of his movement. However, these offers were ultimately declined by the opposition. According to Bekim Çollaku, a former Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Kurti’s actions were deliberately calculated.

Speaking to Euronews Albania, Çollaku stated that Kurti never intended to engage in substantive negotiations with the opposition in the last days leading up to the election. The situation remains precarious as Kosovo enters its final week, with the possibility of early elections increasing as a consequence of the unresolved presidential issue. The focus now shifts to whether a compromise can be reached before the constitutional deadline.
