Nikolloski: Skopje and Ohrid Airports Have Recorded Record Air Traffic Growth

Skopje International Airport Reports Significant Air Traffic Growth

Skopje International Airport has experienced a substantial increase in air traffic, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikolloski, announcing a 32% rise in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year. Despite a reduction of approximately 6,000 new slots attributed to global events, the airport maintains a strong position within the regional ranking. This assessment is corroborated by EX-YU Aviation News, a specialized industry portal.

Initial data reveals a 30% surge in passenger numbers across Macedonian airports during the first months of 2024, alongside an approximate 20% increase in air operations. Nikolloski highlighted the recent expansion of routes, noting the commencement of flights from Skopje to Naples and Budapest, alongside new connections from Ohrid to Milan and Bratislava. Further expansion is planned, with flights to Katowice scheduled to begin in July, marking a new route from Ohrid.

The Ministry continues to focus on bolstering air connectivity and maintaining the airport’s competitive standing within the region.
