The deployment of Serbian ambulances in Skenderaj, the EU says that a solution has been found: Service provision will continue for the community.

EU Announces Resolution Following Closure of Skenderaj Ambulances

Skenderaj, Kosovo – The European Union has confirmed a resolution regarding the recent closure of family medicine ambulances in the villages of Banjë and Syriganë, previously operated in Skenderaj. The situation, initially raised by Sami Lushtaku, the mayor of Skenderaj, on April 18, 2026, centered around concerns regarding the ambulances’ operation. Lushtaku had stated that the two ambulances were operating illegally, managed by “parallel Serbian structures” and outside the “constitutional and legal order of the Republic of Kosovo.” This announcement prompted a response from the Serbian List, who asserted that the cessation of services “directly jeopardizes the right to healthcare for the Serbian population and all citizens who have utilized these healthcare institutions.”

Following the initial concerns, a solution has been established to ensure continued service provision for the Lajme community.

Details of the resolution are currently under discussion, but the EU’s intervention has effectively addressed the immediate disruption. The situation highlights ongoing tensions surrounding healthcare access within Skenderaj, particularly concerning the involvement of serbian entities and the operation of ambulances. The EU’s involvement underscores the importance of upholding legal frameworks and ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all residents of Skenderaj.
