Albania Secures 20-Year Liquefied Gas Supply Through US-Greece Agreement
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced a significant agreement with the United States of America and Greece, securing Albania a 20-year supply of liquefied natural gas. The announcement, made during the “Flasim” podcast, outlines an investment of $6 billion aimed at establishing a stable foundation for Albania’s energy diversification. Rama emphasized that this agreement represents a crucial step in bolstering the country’s energy security.
The investment is projected to facilitate a shift towards a more diversified energy portfolio for Albania. A key component of the agreement involves the construction of a pipeline connecting Vlora and Fier. This infrastructure project will integrate the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TECO) into the broader regional energy network.
Rama highlighted that this connection will transform Vlora into a strategically important location for the exploitation and export of gas via the TAP pipeline. The overall goal, according to Prime Minister Rama, is to strengthen Albania’s position within the European energy market and ensure a reliable supply of energy resources for the nation.
