March 3, AGK: VV and power attempting to delegitimize the work of journalists

Kosovo Journalists Association Cites Government Efforts to Undermine Press Freedom

PRISHTINA, Kosovo – On May 3, World Press Freedom Day, the Kosovo Journalists’ Association (AGK) expressed ongoing concerns regarding the targeting of journalists in Kosovo. The association asserts that journalists continue to face significant challenges in their work, largely attributed to actions by the Government of Kosovo and the Vetëvendosje party. AGK reports that a sustained campaign is underway to delegitimize the work of journalists.

This campaign involves the use of derogatory language intended to erode public trust in media reporting. The association highlighted that journalists in Kosovo remain a target of these efforts. “The main remains an ongoing campaign by the Government of Kosovo and the ruling Vetëvendosje party to delegitimize the work of journalists,” AGK stated.

The association is calling on the ruling government to cease these actions and respect the vital role of a free press within Kosovo. The statement comes as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding press freedom and protecting journalists from intimidation and attempts to undermine their credibility. The concerns underscore the continued need for protections and support for media outlets operating in Kosovo.
