KEDS Faces €90,000 in Fines for Meter Irregularities
The Ministry of Industry, Enterprise, Trade and Innovation (MINTI), via the Central Inspection of Market Supervision (IQMT), has levied 18 fines against KEDS totaling €90,000. The penalties stem from irregularities identified during the verification of electrical meters. According to MINTI, the fines were issued due to the detection of 18 expired meters.
The ministry reported ongoing consumer complaints regarding meter irregularities throughout April 2026. An ad hoc commission established to address the issue received a substantial 574 complaints, substantiated by evidence of discrepancies in recorded hours and dates. Investigations revealed that 54 electrical meters were withdrawn from service across eight municipalities during this period.
The total financial impact of the fines underscores the seriousness of the identified issues with KEDS’s meter management. The investigation highlights a continued concern regarding the accuracy and maintenance of meters operated by KEDS. The fines represent a significant investment by MINTI in ensuring regulatory compliance within the energy sector.
The use of meters and the actions of KEDS are under scrutiny following these findings.
