U.S. Defense Secretary Confirms Ceasefire Remains in Place Despite Recent Strait of Hormuz Exchanges
Washington – U.S. Secretary of Defense has affirmed that the current ceasefire is not over, following reported exchanges of fire between Iranian and U.S.
forces in the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at a Pentagon press conference on Monday, the Secretary stated, “No, the ceasefire is not over. Ultimately, this is a specific and distinct project, and we expected from the beginning there would be some fluctuation, which occurred.”
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, corroborated this assessment.
He indicated that Iran has conducted more than ten attacks on U.S. forces since the ceasefire was established. However, General Caine emphasized that these actions remain within the framework of considering the resumption of large-scale military operations.
Adm. Brad Cooper, a key figure in the ongoing situation, highlighted the need to maintain a measured approach. The Secretary’s statement underscores the U.S.
commitment to the ceasefire agreement while acknowledging the continued provocations from Iran. The situation remains a subject of ongoing monitoring and diplomatic efforts. The exchange of fire in the Strait of Hormuz has prompted renewed scrutiny of security measures in the region.
