Spiropali will be excluded from the DP, here are Erion Braçe’s responses.

Internal Tensions Within Socialist Party Lead to Potential Exclusion of Elisa Spiropali

Tensions within the Socialist Party (SP) have escalated following concerns raised by former Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali regarding bureaucratic issues within the Democratic Party (DP). Speaking to Euronews Albania on May 12, 2026, Socialist Party MP Erion Brace addressed the ongoing disagreements between Prime Minister Edi Rama and Spiropali. Brace acknowledged that Spiropali’s criticisms concerning the bureaucracy of the DP ministry and directorates are legitimate and represent a significant concern for numerous DP deputies.

He emphasized the potential damage caused by “personalization of power,” stating that such practices negatively impact the government, party deputies, and ministry personnel. When questioned about the possibility of excluding Spiropali from the Socialist Party group, Brace affirmed that the decision rests solely with the party. “This is a decision made by the party and not the individual,” he stated.

Brace highlighted the issue of inequality between various roles within the political system, including those of deputies, ministers, and directorate staff. The situation underscores ongoing divisions within the SP and raises questions about the future dynamics of the political landscape in Albania. Further developments are anticipated as the party considers its response to Spiropali’s concerns.
