Six years have passed since North Macedonia’s accession to NATO.

Today, north Macedonia commemorates six years since its entry into NATO, a significant milestone achieved on this date in 2020. This event solidified the nation’s position as the 30th member of the alliance. The accession represented a crucial strategic goal, as originally defined within a parliamentary resolution from 1993.

To ensure sustained advancement in north Macedonia’s integration with nato, the Parliament undertook a unanimous ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty Agreement on February 11, 2020. Following this, the protocol formalizing membership was signed by the country’s president on March 20, 2020. The formal process continued with the deposition of the membership instrument, facilitated through the north Macedonia embassy in Washington, D.C.

This crucial step occurred on March 27, 2020, and was submitted to the State Department in the USA. Ultimately, this action officially designated north Macedonia as the 30th member of nato, concluding a vital chapter in the country’s security and international relations.
