Skopje Castle will open its doors to tourists after a multi-year hiatus

The revitalization and opening of the Skopje Fortress remain a key focus for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism due to its significant potential for attracting international visitors. The fortress is scheduled to welcome the public by the end of June, with related tourist streams also anticipated to benefit other local attractions, including the Aqueduct and Skupi. Zoran Lutkov, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, stated that the department’s priorities extend beyond mere cultural preservation.

He highlighted that ecology and the development of areas possessing potential for cultural and tourism growth are equally important. “Besides culture, the priority is ecology, and the priority is opening places with potential where culture can develop,” Lutkov stated. He further noted that the primary shared objective between the City of Skopje and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is the successful opening of the fortress by the end of June.

These initiatives underscore a comprehensive strategy for enhancing the overall appeal of Skopje. By focusing on infrastructure development alongside cultural preservation, authorities aim to boost the local economy through increased tourism. The anticipated opening of the historic site is expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience, positioning Skopje as a destination that balances deep cultural heritage with modern ecological and developmental improvements.
