Mucunski: The issue with Bulgaria will be discussed with the President of the European Commission, Antonio Costa

Foreign Minister Timço Mucunski confirmed that the issue concerning Bulgaria is slated for discussion during tomorrow’s meeting with the President of the Council of Europe, Antonio Costa, in Skopje. Mucunski indicated that while various concepts are currently under consideration, there is not a singular, formalized non-paper addressing the matter. “More ideas have been shared; there is no non-paper,” Mucunski stated.

He elaborated that numerous ideas are being exchanged with both EU representatives and member state delegates. However, he emphasized that all suggestions remain consistent with the principles upheld by his state. Mucunski articulated that the foremost expectation is the establishment of clear institutional guarantees, which he views as the final hurdle to resolving the bilateral nature of the issue.

Furthermore, Mucunski highlighted a second, critical concern: the failure of Bulgaria to implement rulings issued by the European Court of Human Rights. These points, he explained, are central to the agenda that will be discussed in the upcoming meeting. The minister’s comments suggest a focus on institutional alignment and adherence to international legal judgments when addressing the relationship with Bulgaria.
