American Chamber of Commerce: American natural gas should be a strategic priority for Kosovo

The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo has urged the Government of Kosovo to designate access to natural gas from the United States (LNG) and the development of requisite gas infrastructure as a national strategic priority. AmCham highlighted that such an initiative would yield significant economic and energy advantages, while simultaneously bolstering Kosovo’s strategic alignment with the United States, which it identifies as the nation’s most crucial strategic partner. Currently, Kosovo’s energy system faces reliance on aging thermal power plants, and the country’s electricity imports represent a substantial economic burden.

Furthermore, the planned renovations of existing generation capacities and anticipated increases in energy demand expose the nation to potential vulnerabilities. By prioritizing the integration of US-sourced LNG and associated infrastructure, Kosovo can diversify its energy mix and improve energy security. This move is viewed by AmCham as critical for stabilizing the national economy and supporting sustained development goals.

The emphasis on this infrastructure development underscores a commitment to deepening the economic and strategic partnership between Kosovo and the American market.
