Philippine: Anti-European forces are more organized than ever to prevent Macedonia’s path to the EU

Venco Filipçe, the leader of the LSDM, convened the international conference titled “Skopje Initiative.” The event was jointly organized by the LSDM and the High School of Politics in Korçë. During his address, Filipçe issued a call for the unification of progressive forces across the region. He specifically targeted the perceived threats posed by rising nationalism, populism, and systemic corruption.

In his opening remarks, Filipçe asserted that the Western Balkans stands at a critical juncture. He suggested that following a period of stagnation, the prospect of achieving membership in the European Union has reappeared. According to Filipçe, the “Skopje Initiative” represents a tangible effort designed to bolster regional cooperation among social democratic and progressive political parties throughout the area.

Filipçe emphasized that the current generation possesses a distinct opportunity to conclude the process of European integration and realize a long-held aspiration for the entire region. The conference thus positioned itself as a platform for coordinating political action aimed at strengthening regional stability and aligning the countries with broader European objectives. The initiative aims to consolidate political will among various progressive groups to navigate the complex path toward full integration within European structures.
