Forensic expert after the murder of the 18-year-old in Gjakova: The risk of political violence is returning

Criminologist Armend Halimi discussed the recent fatal incident in Gjakovë, where an 18-year-old individual passed away, during an appearance on the FIVE program on RTV Dukagjini. Halimi noted that instances of violence in Kosovo are not unprecedented. He expressed concern regarding the rate of fatalities relative to the population size when compared to other regions.

“Even the latest case actually shows that we do not have stability in this direction,” Halimi stated. He further highlighted concerns stemming from media reports concerning the motives behind the violence. While family members have suggested that personal disputes might be involved, Halimi pointed to indications of a resurgence of political violence.

He observed that such political undertones were more characteristic of the early years following the conflict. Halimi expressed concern that political figures are contributing to the situation, noting that such actions are unexpected. The discussion emphasized that the pattern of violence suggests persistent instability.

The criminologist’s comments suggest that the underlying causes of the violence are complex, extending beyond individual disputes and touching upon deeper societal and political fractures.
