The Court evaluates Adem Shehi’s contribution to the UÇK war

The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, held a meeting with Adem Shehi, a retired senior officer of the Albanian Armed Forces and former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army. The meeting took place on Kosovo’s Liberation Day. Earlier that day, Adem Shehi was recognized with the “Order of Liberty” decoration by the acting presidential guard, Albulena Haxhiu.

During the meeting, Acting Prime Minister Kurti extended his congratulations to Shehi on receiving the decoration. Kurti also acknowledged Shehi’s significant contributions to the liberation struggle, citing his efforts ranging from volunteer training to direct frontline participation. Historical context surrounding Shehi’s service was highlighted.

During the conflict in Kosovo, Shehi was reportedly active in the village of Farkë, near Tirana. There, he was instrumental in training groups of volunteers who subsequently joined the ranks of the UÇK. Furthermore, in 1999, he reportedly left his family to position himself on the war front.

The interaction underscored the government’s recognition of key figures involved in the nation’s history. The presence of the acting leadership meeting with Shehi reinforces the connection between current political structures and the foundational military efforts undertaken during the struggle for Kosovo’s autonomy and freedom.
