Grammy presents five new categories and changes the rules for electing the best new artist

The Recording Academy has announced several significant revisions to the Grammy Awards rules slated for the 2026 ceremony. These updates include the addition of five new award categories and modifications to existing major awards, notably the Best New Artist category. Among the additions is a new category dedicated to the best performance of Asian pop music.

This award is designed to encompass diverse genres, including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, and the recognition will be awarded directly to the artist. Furthermore, a category for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance has been introduced. This award is intended for artists whose musical styles, according to the Academy, “cannot fully adapt to contemporary pop music formats.”

Another significant addition is the new Best Latin Song category.

This award will recognize the songwriters whose works are primarily in Spanish. These structural changes aim to broaden the scope and recognition across various musical genres celebrated at the event. The revisions affect several key areas of the Grammy guidelines, ensuring that the awards better reflect the current diversity and evolution within the music industry while maintaining standards for excellence in performance and composition.
