The Bulgarian Foundation “Macedonia” will block the three border points with North Macedonia on Sunday.

The Bulgarian Foundation “Macedonia” has announced plans to blockade three border points between Bulgaria and North Macedonia this Sunday. According to the Foundation, the action is coordinated with the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior and is scheduled to last for two hours, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. In a statement released via a Facebook post, the Foundation stated the blockade is intended to demonstrate to Prime Minister Christian Mikoski that the perceived persecution of Bulgarians within North Macedonia, alongside alleged biased judicial decisions and attacks against the community, must cease.

The Foundation questioned whether the community was prepared to “demonstratively and peacefully block three border points with North Macedonia and show Mikoski that this cannot continue and that we will react to this aggression that Skopje is carrying out.”

The Bulgarian Foundation “Macedonia” framed the protest as a direct response to what it characterizes as ongoing aggression from Skopje. The group’s objective, as stated, is to draw attention to the situation concerning Bulgarian citizens residing in North Macedonia. The planned action involves the coordinated closure of multiple border crossings, signaling a specific political message directed toward the current leadership in North Macedonia.

  1. This sounds like it will cause significant travel disruptions for everyone crossing the border.
