The Constitutional Court’s acceptance of the initiative concerning street names in Tetovë has prompted a strong reaction from Arbër Ademi of BDI. Ademi contended that the decision was made without a legal basis and without any logical reason, asserting it was merely an exercise of power. He stated that every day, decisions appear to undermine the achievements of the post-communist era beginning in 2001, while simultaneously criticizing the current administration.
According to Ademi, the action represents a daily reversal of progress. He specifically cited the recent ruling by the North Macedonia Constitutional Court, which annulled street and square names in Tetovë that had been approved in 2007, reverting them to older designations. Ademi argued that this reversal occurred without any stable legal foundation or discernible rationale.
He listed several names that are now at risk, including ILIRIA square, THE MEMORIALS OF THE NATION, DERVISH CARA, and MANASTIR CONGRESS. Ademi emphasized that such actions are being taken without adequate justification. He concluded by suggesting that the ability to make such changes stems from the current holders of power, suggesting that the actions are arbitrary rather than legally mandated.
