Kosovo and the Balkans are suffering as infrastructure projects are turned into concrete investments

The Transport Investment Summit is currently being held in Thessaloniki, bringing together various stakeholders including governments, European Union institutions, international financial institutions, and private sector representatives. The primary objective of the summit is to accelerate crucial transport investments across the Western Balkans and adjacent EU regions. Under the theme, “Growth and competitiveness through connectivity,” the discussions are centered on converting strategic connectivity priorities into actionable transport projects ready for financing.

According to a statement issued by the Commission, key areas of focus include the expansion of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), the development of the Western Balkans–Southeast Corridor, and implementing the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. The participation of various nations underscores the regional commitment to infrastructure development. Notably, Kosovo is represented by its Minister of Infrastructure, Dimal Basha, among the attendees.

Furthermore, the forum emphasizes fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure sustainable growth. These discussions aim to solidify regional integration by enhancing physical connections, thereby boosting overall economic competitiveness throughout the region.
