Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vučić, has publicly defended the interests of the Chinese entity, Serbia Zijin Copper, following the United States’ decision to suspend the import of copper and its derivatives due to concerns regarding forced labor. Despite the allegations, Vučić voiced strong support for the Chinese companies, asserting that they hold significant value for the Serbian economy and employment sector. Characterizing the US measures as detrimental to Serbia, the President stated that the Serbian state government would implement all necessary measures to assist the Bor-based firm in overcoming the difficulties imposed by the American restrictions.
During a recent visit, Vučić emphasized the company’s critical role, stating, “I believe that through dialogue with the Americans, we can at least help the company in Bor, which employs 7,000 people and keeps the heart of Serbia alive.”
