GAP Institute presents the report on industrial green policies and the challenges of the energy transition in Kosovo

The GAP Institute recently hosted a discussion panel as part of the “Green Industrial Policies (GIP)” project, an initiative supported by the Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans (OSF-WB). The event featured the presentation of the report titled, “Green Industrial Policies: An Analysis of the Kosovo Context.”

During the session, Blendi Hasaj, Executive Director at the GAP Institute, emphasized the organization’s pivotal role in coordinating the project. He noted that the GIP effort has spanned more than three years and has successfully engaged civil society organizations from various countries across the region.

Hasaj stressed that fostering pan-Balkan cooperation is crucial, as it promises significantly greater collective impact and broader benefits for regional development. The presented report offers an in-depth examination of the local economy within Kosovo. A key finding highlighted by the panel is the potential economic vulnerability posed by inaction regarding sustainable practices.

Specifically, the analysis warns stakeholders about the tangible financial costs that may arise, particularly in the context of implementing carbon taxation mechanisms. Overall, the discussion underscored the necessity of adopting comprehensive, green strategies to modernize the region’s economic structure. The findings presented by the GAP Institute serve to guide policymakers toward integrating environmental considerations directly into future industrial planning across the Balkans.
