Mercedes-AMG has opted to retain its powerful V8 engine for its flagship SUVs. The updated GLE 63 S and GLS 63 models continue to feature the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, which has undergone modernization to comply with increasingly stringent emission regulations. This new powerplant, designated M177 Evo, incorporates several substantial technical enhancements.
Key upgrades include the integration of a flat-plane crankshaft, an updated fuel supply system, and improvements to the air intake manifold. These modifications collectively result in a more responsive engine and elevated performance metrics. The resulting power output is substantial, reaching approximately 603 horsepower and generating around 850 Nm of torque.
Furthermore, the inclusion of a mild-hybrid 48-volt system contributes supplementary power, optimizing acceleration capabilities. According to Mercedes-AMG specifications, the GLE 63 S can achieve 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3.6 seconds. Similarly, the GLS 63 demonstrates impressive acceleration figures, ensuring the continued high performance expected from the Mercedes brand.
