Obama: We are back where we were before the war with Iran, perhaps even in a worse situation

Former U.S. President Barack Obama stated that the United States, following the conflict with Iran initiated during the Trump administration, appears to have reached a point comparable to its status prior to the hostilities, or perhaps even in a more precarious one. Speaking in an interview for “TODAY,” Obama noted the significant costs associated with the military action.

He remarked, “We have now waged a war, spent billions and billions of dollars, and placed our military under a great strain. Many people have lost their lives. And it seems we are back where we were before we started the war, except perhaps in a slightly worse situation.”

When questioned about the memorandum of understanding between the U.S.

and Iran, Obama expressed satisfaction with the cessation of hostilities and conveyed his hope for its continuation. He questioned the rationale behind the preceding actions. His comments suggest a critical assessment of the outcome of the conflict.

Obama’s assessment implies that the expenditure of resources and human life in the war has not yielded the anticipated strategic improvements. Instead, he suggests the nation faces a situation that is no better than its pre-conflict state, and potentially more challenging.

  1. It’s concerning to hear an assessment that the current situation is comparable to, or worse than, the pre-conflict period regarding Iran.
