Business Connection: Kosovo should not lose the opportunity to be included in the regional natural gas network

The Kosovo Business Association has identified securing access to liquefied natural gas (LNG) and developing related infrastructure as critical strategic priorities for the nation’s economic advancement and energy security. A recent media statement highlighted that Kosovo currently remains heavily dependent on coal-fired power generation and external energy imports. This reliance, the statement noted, subjects the business sector and the broader economy to persistent supply uncertainties and escalating operational costs.

The association expressed concern regarding the current energy landscape, particularly in comparison to neighboring nations. The statement observed that as regional countries invest significantly in new gas pipelines and diversify their energy sources, Kosovo faces the risk of lagging behind in developments crucial to future economic competitiveness. Addressing the need for modernization, the business community emphasized that a strategic shift away from coal dependency is necessary to ensure stable and affordable energy supplies.

Access to reliable, alternative energy sources, such as LNG, is framed not merely as an energy upgrade but as a fundamental pillar supporting sustained economic growth. Failure to secure these energy pathways, the association cautioned, could impede Kosovo’s ability to participate fully in the expanding energy markets of the region. Therefore, investment in LNG infrastructure is viewed by the business sector as an urgent prerequisite for national economic stability and competitiveness.
