Specialja denies Haxhi Shalë’s request for a stay in Albania

The Special Court has denied Haxhi Shala’s request to travel to Albania for a brief vacation. The court determined that such movement conflicts with the stipulations of his conditional release. Chief Trendafilova issued the decision, stating that the travel request was rejected because it contravenes the established conditions of his sentence and conditional release.

The court’s reasoning emphasized that the proposed travel fundamentally conflicts with the terms of his sentence, adding that conditional release cannot be altered except for compelling legal or humanitarian justifications. Despite denying the travel permission, the court did approve Haxhi Shala’s separate request for the renewal of his passport and other travel documents. Haxhi Shala was granted conditional release on February 2, 2026.

His sentence is currently scheduled to conclude on October 11, 2026. The court’s ruling thus restricts his ability to undertake international travel at this time due to compliance concerns related to his supervised release status.
