Anti-Hamas protests erupt in Gaza

Hundreds of Palestinians participated in organized anti-Hamas protests across various locations within the Gaza Strip, according to circulating social media images. These demonstrations were reportedly planned by activists who called for a large turnout on July 26th. However, reports indicate that prior to the planned events, residents who intended to participate faced alleged pressure and threats from individuals linked to Hamas.

During the protests, demonstrators were observed carrying banners displaying messages critical of Hamas, including slogans such as “With God’s permission, Hamas out,” “We are not hostages,” and “We want to live.” Footage captured during the demonstrations also included calls advocating for a halt to the ongoing war and the destruction within Gaza, with slogans like “Enough with the destruction” being audible. While the exact areas of the protests were not definitively established, a Facebook page named “June 26 Revolution” had promoted demonstrations across 18 different sites throughout the territory. These anti-Hamas protests are occurring at a highly volatile time for Gaza.

The combination of the ongoing war and the escalating humanitarian crisis has reportedly increased discontent among segments of the population. Despite these public demonstrations, Hamas remains the primary governing authority in the Gaza Strip.
