Artificial intelligence (AI) offers numerous conveniences, yet it simultaneously presents escalating risks to personal privacy. The rapid capacity of algorithms to collect, analyze, and profile personal data has heightened the threat of identity theft. Addressing this concern, Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, Commissioner of the Agency for Information and Privacy in Kosovo, stated that the issue is not inherent to artificial intelligence itself, but rather to its application.
Speaking on the “5 Questions” podcast from Radio Free Europe, Sogojeva Dermaku cautioned that the core risk stems from user behavior. “We need to know to whom and where we are giving our data. The risk begins not because we use artificial intelligence, but how we use it,” she advised.
She highlighted that individuals frequently share considerably more personal information than they are fully aware of. The increasing reliance on AI systems for daily life necessitates greater public awareness regarding data governance. While the technology itself is a tool, its deployment and the manner in which users interact with data collection mechanisms are critical factors in maintaining privacy.
Experts suggest that understanding the scope and destination of shared data is paramount for mitigating risks associated with advanced AI capabilities.
