Deadline bomb: Granit Xhaka reaches agreement with Chelsea

Reports suggest that Chelsea is reportedly planning to submit an offer for midfielder Granit Xhaka. The interest stems from Xabi Alonso, who has reportedly urged the club owners, BlueCo, to finalize an agreement for the player currently at Sunderland. Alonso, who is set to officially take over as Chelsea’s manager on January 1st, has a known history with Xhaka.

The pair previously played together at Bayer Leverkusen, where they achieved significant success during the 2023/24 season. During that campaign, they secured the Bundesliga title and the German Cup, in addition to reaching the Europa League final. Granit Xhaka, formerly an Arsenal player, was a key figure for Sunderland last season and was recognized as one of the top performers in the Premier League.

His move to the Tyne and Wear club occurred in the summer of 2025, for a reported fee of 20 million euros. Despite his current status at Sunderland, sources indicate that discussions regarding a potential move back to Chelsea are underway. The reported interest suggests that the club may be prepared to pursue a transfer to reunite the pair.

This developing situation places Xhaka, a player with a proven connection to the London club’s recent managerial appointments, back into the transfer spotlight.
