Sunderland refused 8 million euros, Chelsea close to making the offer for Granit Xhaka

Reports indicate that Chelsea has not abandoned efforts to secure the transfer of Granit Xhaka this summer. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the club is anticipated to resume discussions with Sunderland on Thursday, following the immediate rejection of an initial bid amounting to 8 million euros. Sunderland, however, has maintained a firm stance regarding their captain.

The English club has communicated both publicly and privately that Xhaka is not available for transfer and that they do not intend to consider alternative offers for the Albanian midfielder. Despite the resistance from the club, Xhaka himself remains keen on a move to Chelsea. His interest is reportedly motivated by a desire to reunite professionally with Xabi Alonso, with whom he previously collaborated successfully during his time at Bayer Leverkusen.

Plettenberg noted that while the transfer process remains challenging, the situation has not been definitively ruled out. The ongoing negotiations suggest that Chelsea continues to pursue the acquisition, keeping the possibility of a deal open despite the initial setbacks and Sunderland’s stated reluctance to negotiate further transfers for Xhaka.
