Ajvazi: “Made in Kosovo” products are already recognized internationally, opening new export opportunities to Europe

Products originating from Kosovo are set to receive official recognition with the “Made in Kosovo” designation, which will be verifiable through an international barcode system. This development is anticipated to significantly improve the ability of local manufacturers to penetrate both European markets and major retail chains. The confirmation came from Kushtrim Ajvazi, Chairman of the Kosovo Producers Association (OEK), during an appearance on the “Përballje Podcast.” Ajvazi highlighted the importance of this standardization for the nation’s industrial sector.

Supporting this assessment, Muhamet Hajrullahu, editor-in-chief of Telergafi, characterized the move as a pivotal advancement for Kosovo’s manufacturing capabilities. The core of this development involves the integration of Kosovo into the international GS1 barcode system, a process slated to begin in 2026. This inclusion grants local goods an internationally recognized identity, moving beyond regional recognition to global standardization.

The implementation of the “Made in Kosovo” mark, backed by this universal coding system, is designed to build consumer trust and streamline cross-border trade. By adopting globally recognized standards, the initiative aims to provide local producers with a credible pathway to international commerce. This official designation solidifies the market presence of goods manufactured within Kosovo, facilitating greater trade opportunities and supporting the growth of the domestic industrial base.
