While washing sheets is a common household task that is sometimes overlooked, medical professionals recommend laundering them weekly. Doctor Gareth Nye explained that the necessity of this frequency depends on individual sleeping arrangements, such as whether occupants share a bed or sleep alone.

He attributed the buildup to sweat, natural skin oils, and the accumulation of various microorganisms. Nye further noted that perspiration rates vary among individuals throughout the night. He mentioned that men typically sweat less than women, and that women may experience increased sweating during menopause.

Despite the general advice regarding bedding, experts emphasize that pillowcases require special attention because routine washing may not be sufficient. The accumulation of bacteria on pillowcases necessitates more frequent cleaning to maintain optimal hygiene for the skin.
