The U.S. Embassy in Skopje has issued a directive regarding the processing of services for U.S. citizens, announcing a transition to a mandatory cashless payment system.
This change affects all transactions related to U.S. Citizen Services, which include passport applications and notarial services. Effective October 15, 2026, the Embassy will no longer accept physical forms of payment, including cash or credit cards, at the consular section for these services.
According to the official notice, all associated payments must be completed in advance through the dedicated Pay.gov online portal. To ensure continuity of service for U.S. citizens, the Embassy mandates a new procedure for all appointments.
Upon completing the payment online, applicants must print the resulting electronic payment confirmation. This printed confirmation must then be presented by the citizen at the scheduled appointment date at the U.S. Embassy.
This updated protocol aims to streamline financial transactions and enhance security protocols at the facility. The Embassy advises all U.S. citizens requiring services after the specified date to consult the official website for the most current guidelines and detailed instructions regarding the new payment requirements.
The move represents a comprehensive update to how payments are processed for essential consular services.
