Taravari: Negotiations with the EU will not begin without constitutional changes

Arben Taravari, Chairman of the Alliance for Albanians, stated that Albanian political parties in North Macedonia endorse necessary constitutional changes. He emphasized that the Macedonian side must now achieve consensus on this matter. Taravari noted that visiting representatives from the European Union and member states consistently convey one message: constitutional amendments are an indispensable prerequisite for North Macedonia to commence and successfully conclude European Union membership negotiations.

“There is no other alternative to start negotiations,” Taravari asserted. While acknowledging the Prime Minister’s stated requirements for a form of guarantee, he maintained that the path toward EU membership necessitates these constitutional adjustments. “I see no other option,” he concluded.

Taravari’s comments underscore the political alignment of Albanian parties regarding reform. The necessity of these constitutional changes is presented as a non-negotiable condition for advancing the country’s integration process with the EU. The focus remains on building consensus among domestic stakeholders to meet the external benchmarks set by European partners.

The political discourse suggests that without agreement on the constitutional framework, the momentum for formal EU accession negotiations may stall.
