According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timço Mucunski, the function of the state is not intended to supplant the private sector, but rather to establish the necessary conditions that allow enterprise, knowledge, and capital to generate new economic value. Speaking at the event “Transforming Sustainability into Competitiveness: Building Resilient Businesses in an Uncertain World,” which was organized by the UN office in collaboration with the Chamber of Economy and the MPJ, Mucunski emphasized the proactive role of the government. Mucunski stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is actively developing economic diplomacy as a practical mechanism to support Macedonian companies globally.
He stressed that the country’s diplomatic efforts must be strategically focused on achieving tangible outcomes. The primary objectives of this diplomatic network, he noted, include successfully opening new international markets, attracting crucial foreign investments, boosting export volumes, and facilitating direct connections between businesses and vital information resources. This strategic orientation aims to transition national economic potential into sustained competitiveness.
The focus remains on leveraging diplomatic channels to move beyond general support toward concrete market penetration and investment realization. By strengthening the connection between diplomatic outreach and private sector needs, the government seeks to build a more resilient economic structure capable of navigating global uncertainties.
