Zulfaj on the loss of over 40 million euros from the EU: The cause is the blockade in Parliament

Kosovo’s Chief Negotiator with the European Union, Jeton Zulfaj, has indicated that the nation may forfeit more than 40 million euros from the EU Growth Plan. According to statements made during an interview on the “Përballje Podcast” via Telegrafi.com, this potential financial shortfall stems from the failure to implement several critical reforms aligned with European Union deadlines. Zulfaj addressed the root cause of the delay, clarifying that the impediment was not a lack of institutional readiness to execute the necessary reforms.

Instead, he cited legislative blockades within the Assembly as the primary obstacle, noting that a significant portion of the outstanding requirements necessitated the passage of new laws. Specifically, Zulfaj detailed that thirteen milestones were due by April 30th. He confirmed that while the team intends to push forward with six of these steps, five of the incomplete actions are directly tied to legislative approvals that have stalled.

The negotiator emphasized that progress is being actively pursued despite these hurdles. The potential loss of over 40 million euros underscores the urgency of resolving the legislative impasse to meet EU benchmarks. Zulfaj’s comments highlight the critical link between domestic legislative action and the realization of substantial EU development funding for Kosovo.
