The new BMW X5 makes history with five engine types

The upcoming new BMW X5 is poised to mark a significant milestone for the brand, as it will be the first BMW model to incorporate a diverse array of engine types. These powertrains will include gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, electric, and hydrogen options. Despite this comprehensive lineup, a notable omission at the initial launch is the large V8 engine.

Initially, the luxury SUV will be offered exclusively with six-cylinder engine configurations. However, BMW has indicated that an eight-cylinder engine option is forthcoming. As anticipated, BMW plans to reserve the powerful 4.4-liter V8 engine, equipped with twin turbos, for a specialized M variant of the X5.

While this specific model does not yet possess an official designation, industry reports suggest it may be named the X5 M60. This addition is expected to provide a high-performance option to complement the model’s diverse powertrain offerings. The integration of such a wide spectrum of engine technologies positions the new X5 as a technologically advanced offering within the BMW SUV segment.
