Filipino: We will not allow electoral theft; our stance is principled

Venko Filipçe, the leader of LSDM, has stated that his party will uphold its principled position regarding proposed amendments to the Election Code. Filipçe indicated that LSDM will not support any solutions that, in their view, could create avenues for electoral manipulation or what he termed “electoral theft.”

A central point of contention is the proposed voting mechanism for the diaspora. Filipçe questioned the rationale behind establishing different voting procedures for expatriates compared to those residing within the country.

He argued for parity, questioning why one group might require fingerprint verification domestically while others were expected to vote electronically or by mail. His assertion was that all voters should participate under equal conditions. According to Filipçe, the current proposals effectively subject diaspora citizens to unwarranted suspicion regarding their potential involvement in electoral irregularities.

The differing protocols, he argued, undermine the principle of equal suffrage. The party’s stance emphasizes that any changes must guarantee a fair and transparent electoral process. Filipçe maintained that the integrity of the vote should not be compromised by differentiated voting methods.

The opposition remains firm in its belief that any deviation from standardized, equitable voting procedures could jeopardize the legitimacy of future electoral outcomes.
