An investigation has been launched by Israeli police following security camera footage that reportedly shows a border police officer deploying a smoke grenade near a vehicle in the occupied West Bank. According to reports from Telegrafi, the incident occurred in the Palestinian refugee camp of Qalandia. The footage reportedly captures the officer approaching the vehicle and shouting at individuals inside.
Following a brief exchange, the officer is seen throwing a smoke grenade through the open door and subsequently closing it while the driver attempted to depart. The sequence included an audible explosion and visible smoke. Two passengers were observed fleeing from the opposite side of the vehicle before the officer appeared, aiming a rifle at the individuals who were crouching for cover.
The Israeli human rights group B’Tselem stated that all occupants of the vehicle survived the incident.
