The Supreme Court of Kosovo has issued a ruling granting specific financial benefits to UÇK veterans. According to lawyer Nazmi Sallahu, who reported the development via a social media post, the court decision confirms that UÇK veterans are entitled to receive not only the standard old-age pension and the designated veteran’s pension, but also a pension benefit for the surviving heir following the veteran’s passing. Sallahu stated that the previous denial of these rights to the veteran community constituted an illegal deprivation of benefits.
He argued that the limitation placed on accessing the veteran’s pension, in addition to the basic and contributory pensions, created a significant and unjustified inequality within the Republic of Kosovo’s legal framework. The ruling, as detailed by Sallahu, specifically addresses the comprehensive nature of the support package, confirming the entitlement to all three streams of pension payments. This outcome is presented as a reaffirmation of fundamental constitutional and legal principles governing veteran benefits.
The court’s decision rectifies what was previously considered a deficiency in the entitlements afforded to these veterans, ensuring a more robust system of financial support for the community.
