Ziadin Sela, Chairman of the Albanian League, announced at a press conference held at the Parliament that the league has submitted amendments to the Electoral Code. Sela stated that the league intends to block the passage of the code unless provisions are made to allow the Albanian diaspora to participate in voting for local elections either electronically or by mail. During the conference, Sela accused established Albanian parties, specifically VLEN and BDI, of collaborating with OBRM-PDUKM.
He alleged that this collaboration aims to systematically exclude the Albanian diaspora from participating in local elections, thereby limiting their ability to influence the governance of key municipalities, including Kërçova, Bërvenica, and Buteli. Regarding other electoral proposals, Sela presented alternative concerns. Concerning presidential elections, he suggested that the push for electronic voting for the diaspora might be designed to dilute the overall influence of Albanians and facilitate easier census operations.
Furthermore, regarding parliamentary voting in special units, Sela maintained that the goal appears to be keeping the diaspora as distant as possible from the electoral processes. The demands put forth by Sela underscore the league’s focus on ensuring the participation of the diaspora in all levels of Albanian democratic processes, particularly at the local level.
