ASH: The diaspora vote should not be a propaganda tool

The Alliance for Albanians has expressed support for the diaspora’s right to vote, but has voiced reservations regarding the government’s current approach to the issue. According to Alliance for Albanians deputy Halil Snopçe, the party supports various mechanisms for the diaspora to cast their ballot, including both electronic and postal voting methods. However, the party opposes any form of manipulation concerning the process.

Snopçe emphasized that there is a distinction between the fundamental right to vote and the right to an equal vote. He asserted that if the diaspora is considered an integral part of the state, full rights must be accorded to its citizens. The party cautioned against treating the issue merely as a political slogan or a tactic used solely when electoral support is needed.

Snopçe questioned the government’s commitment, noting that while it discusses the diaspora’s vote, it has remained silent on the crucial question of whether such a vote will actually take place. This suggests a concern that the discussion surrounding the diaspora’s right to vote may lack concrete guarantees of implementation, framing the issue as one of full citizenship rights rather than just an electoral mechanism.
