Prime Minister Rama defends the expenditure of 4 million euros for the Kanye West concert in Albania

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama defended the decision to allocate 4 million euros for a concert by American rapper Kanye West, scheduled for April 11. The performance will take place in a temporary stadium constructed near Tirana. Rama defended the expenditure by citing the need to prevent potential embarrassment to Albania.

He stated that the significant investment was made at short notice to accommodate an expected audience of around 25,000 international visitors from 80 different countries who had already purchased tickets for the event. According to the Prime Minister, many attendees were concerned that the concert might be canceled. The controversy surrounding Kanye West, also known as Ye, is notable as he has been barred from performing in several European locations this summer.

These bans followed public statements made by the rapper that included endorsements of Adolf Hitler and the use of Nazi symbols. Despite the international backlash and the artist’s controversial statements, the government proceeded with the plans. The allocation of the 4 million euros underscores the commitment to hosting the event for the assembled foreign visitors.
