The potential record was brought to attention after a colleague of Dan McLaughlin, the president and co-owner of McLaughlin Freight, discovered the possibility through online research. The current record for the oldest truck driver was previously held by Doyle Archer, who was 92 years old when his record was updated in October 2025. Archer had previously set the record at the age of 90 in 2024.
Asmus’s extensive service record suggests a significant claim to the title. Over more than 70 years of professional driving, he has logged an impressive total of over five million miles.
