A 93-year-old man from Iowa may be the oldest truck driver in the world

A 93-year-old man from Iowa, Orrin Asmus, is being considered for the title of the world’s oldest truck driver, potentially setting a new Guinness World Record. Asmus, who is set to turn 94 in August, has accumulated a decades-long career behind the wheel of a truck. According to reports from Telegrafi, Asmus has been actively driving since he was 19 and has spent the last eleven years employed by McLaughlin Freight.

The potential record was brought to attention after a colleague of Dan McLaughlin, the president and co-owner of McLaughlin Freight, discovered the possibility through online research. The current record for the oldest truck driver was previously held by Doyle Archer, who was 92 years old when his record was updated in October 2025. Archer had previously set the record at the age of 90 in 2024.

Asmus’s extensive service record suggests a significant claim to the title. Over more than 70 years of professional driving, he has logged an impressive total of over five million miles. The achievement highlights a remarkable level of endurance and dedication within the commercial transport industry.

Efforts to verify his credentials with Guinness World Records are underway to determine if his lifetime driving experience surpasses the existing global benchmark for the world’s most veteran truck operator.
