The Municipal Council of Tetovo has adopted a proposal to revisit a 2007 decision concerning the renaming of streets within the city. This initiative, stemming from a proposal submitted by the BDI, is expected to be a focal point of discussion for the governing body. During discussions surrounding the matter, Jusuf Abduli, Chairman of the Municipal Council, issued a significant legal warning regarding the process.
Abduli clarified that if the council were to vote on a decision that had previously been invalidated by the Constitutional Court, the implications could be severe. He emphasized that such an action carries a high probability of triggering the automatic dissolution of the Municipal Council. “It should be clarified that in the event of voting on the same point, there is a possibility that the Council may also dissolve, taking into account the decision of the Constitutional Court…
In the case of the same decision, the possibility is very high that the Municipal Council of Tetovo will dissolve,” Abduli stated. The council session is scheduled for Monday, April 13, and the revisiting of the 2007 street naming decision is confirmed to be among the key items on the municipal agenda. The council’s deliberation on this matter will thus proceed under the shadow of potential constitutional challenges and subsequent administrative repercussions for the local government of Tetovo.
