A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia, resulting in one fatality.

A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Molucca Sea, close to the island of Ternate, Indonesia, on Wednesday morning. The event caused at least one confirmed death. The tremor occurred at 06:48, registering a depth of 35 kilometers.

Following the quake, tsunami warnings were issued. However, these warnings were later retracted by Telegrafi. The seismic activity prompted immediate concern and triggered precautionary measures across the affected area.

Sadly, a 70-year-old woman in North Sulawesi perished after being tragically crushed by falling building materials. Additionally, another person sustained a broken leg after an unfortunate fall from a structure. Despite the region’s history of high seismic activity, several residents shared with the BBC that this earthquake was notably strong, representing one of the most intense events they had experienced in at least six years.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, located in Hawaii, initially issued alerts regarding potential tsunami waves resulting from the earthquake. The situation remains under close observation as authorities assess the full extent of the damage and provide support to those impacted.
