The Union of Independent Trade Unions of Kosovo is convening its ninth electoral congress, an event where delegates are slated to elect the organization’s next leader. To date, Atdhe Hykolli has not faced a challenger in the election process. The congress is attended by delegates from various trade unions, alongside local and international guests, and was also attended by the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
During his address, Mr. Kurti highlighted that the state is undergoing a significant period of economic and institutional consolidation. He emphasized the crucial role of workers as a primary pillar supporting the nation’s development.
Specifically, he noted the recent increase in the minimum wage to 500 euros gross, effective January 1st of this year. According to Mr. Kurti, this wage adjustment benefits an estimated 150,000 workers within the private sector, calling it a “priority.”
The congress serves as a key gathering point for the union movement, providing a platform for workers’ representation and discussion regarding labor standards and economic policy.
The proceedings are focused on determining the organizational direction and leadership for the upcoming term of the trade union body.
